Swing Bed Program
A Bridge Between Acute Care and Home
A Swing Bed program is ideal for patients who no longer need acute care, yet still need skilled nursing care and therapy. In most cases, this program is financially covered by Medicare. Patients who need short-term nursing or rehabilitation service can be cared for around the clock by our medical team without having to go to a nursing home.
Our Swing Bed program is available to patients who had an acute care stay at Washington Regional Medical Center or elsewhere. Patients who receive higher-level acute care at a different medical center can return to Washington Regional for follow-up care.
Swing Bed Services include:
- IV Therapy
- Sterile dressing change
- Skin/Wound care
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Speech therapy
- Respiratory therapy
In service of our mission to provide healthcare that heals, our patients always receive high-quality, personalized care. If you need post-acute care through our Swing Bed Program, your provider, Swing Bed Coordinator, and our skilled staff will work together to create an individualized recovery plan that is tailored to your personal situation. Any changes that may need to be made during your stay will be overseen by the Coordination Team.
Qualifying for a swing bed requires:
- Medicare Part A
- A 3-day, consecutive, acute care stay at the hospital
- Provider determination that daily skilled care or rehabilitation is needed
When skilled care is no longer needed, our team will assist in your transition from skilled care to home. Equipment and home health will be set up by a care coordinator prior to discharge from Washington Regional Medical Center.
